đŻ Day 16 â Guard the Oil
đ âGuard the good deposit that was entrusted to you.â â 2 Timothy 1:14
đ 1. Exegetical Read
Paulâs charge to Timothy is clear: guard whatâs been given. The âgood depositâ here refers to the gift of faith, the calling, and the presence of the Holy Spirit dwelling within. But the verb usedâphylassĆâisnât casual. Itâs military. It means to stand watch, defend, and preserve with intentionality.
Paul doesnât say, âUse it quickly,â or âShow it off.â He says, protect it.
Why? Because spiritual treasures can be leaked, lost, or stolen if left unguarded.
Oil is vulnerable. Itâs not self-protecting. And the more costly it is, the more intentional you must be to shield it.
đ 2. Connection to the Week: Ready the Fire
Youâve reclaimed the oil. Youâve rebuilt the altar. The flame has been lit again. But now comes the test few talk about: protection.
This is the week of readiness, and readiness requires vigilance. The enemy doesnât just try to steal your joyâhe targets your oil. The very intimacy and anointing you fought to recover now becomes the object of subtle warfare.
Guarding your oil means setting boundaries. It means protecting your time in the Word. Saying no to distractions that seem harmless but siphon your focus. Keeping your lamp trimmed and your heart tender.
This is not fear. Itâs wisdom.
đĄ 3. Reconciling Moment
What have you allowed too close to your oil? Who or what is drawing from your reserve without being assigned to your fire?
This isnât about isolationâitâs about consecration. Youâve carried the oil too far to let it spill now. Guard it. Steward it. Tend to what He entrusted you with.
It wasnât cheap to recoverâand itâs not yours to waste.
â Prompt:
What boundaries do I need to place to protect my intimacy and oil?
