🕯 Day 3 – Trim Your Lamp

📖 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.” – Matthew 25:7

🔍 1. Exegetical Read

To “trim the lamp” in the context of first-century oil lamps meant something intentional: the wick had to be cut back, reshaped, or realigned to prevent smoke, flickering, or burnout. A frayed wick might still light, but it wouldn't burn clean—and it would quickly waste the oil.

In Matthew 25:7, all ten virgins awoke. Even the wise needed to trim—because even those prepared must stay postured. This moment wasn’t about deciding to believe again. It was about clearing the flame's path.

The Greek verb (kosmeō)—translated “trim”—can also mean to arrange, to put in order, to prepare for beauty. It’s where we get the word “cosmetic.” Trimming is a reordering for clarity. It removes excess so that what matters can shine.

🔁 2. Connection to the Week: Return to the Source

The call this week is return—but return isn’t always a leap. Sometimes it’s a cut. Before the flame can be rekindled, the wick must be trimmed.

This is the part of revival that often goes ignored. It’s not loud. It’s not public. It’s surgical. What needs to be removed so the fire can flow again? What has been clinging to your soul like ash—resentment, shame, apathy, pride?

This is not punishment. It’s preparation. When you trim, you’re making room for light again.

💡 3. Reconciling Moment

If you’ve felt dim or unstable in your faith—don’t assume the fire is gone. It may just be obstructed. God is not angry at your flicker—He’s ready to restore your flame.

But He won’t force the knife. You must trim the wick. Let Him show you what to surrender—so the oil you’ve reclaimed can burn again, bright and clean.

Prompt:
What is the Spirit asking me to lay down, cut off, or surrender?
